About the Collierville, Tennessee Area

Bordering Germantown to the west, located 25 miles east of Memphis, you will find the charming town of Collierville. Being the second oldest town in Shelby County, Collierville has maintained a rich sense of history and its “small town atmosphere” that residents love.

Quality residential living, friendly people, award winning schools, outstanding community services, scenic beauty, a nationally accredited police department, and great recreation facilities makes the town of Collierville a spectacular place to live. The fine town of Collierville also offers upscale shopping, dining and other amenities at the prestigious retail center know as the Avenue of Carriage Crossing.

The town of Collierville received its name because Jesse R. Collier, an entrepreneur, in 1836 divided land into lots and advertised “The Town of Collier for Sale.” In 1850, Collierville was incorporated for the first time. One of the bloodiest battles in Shelby County was in 1863 when Union soldiers defended Collierville’s train depot from the Confederates. Most of the town burned to the ground leaving only a few buildings and parts of the train station, which still remain today. In 1867, Harrison Irby and Virginus Leake purchased and divided over ninety acres into lots to be sold. Then, in 1870 Collierville was incorporated again for the second time. Following the Civil War, the Town Square became known as the business center and enhanced Collierville’s ability to become a progressive community.

Successfully blending the old with the new, take a stroll through Collierville’s Historic Town Square, with beautifully renovated historic buildings, restaurants, specialty stores, an array of professional services, and a great mix of antique stores, for which Collierville is famous.

Today, Collierville is one of the fastest growing towns in the state and in the country; attracting facilities such as Federal Express’s state-of-the-art Information Technology campus, the Baptist Memorial Hospital, Carrier, and several other manufacturing companies.

Collierville has a rich sense of history and quality of living. If you are looking for a much desired community in which to live, work, and grow, then make this delightful community your home.

Real Estate Tips
Accepting An Offer >Purchase Negotiations

If you are selling your home, you should be prepared for the day your first offer comes in. When your real estate agent calls to say there is an offer on your home, you will naturally get excited. When your agent describes the offer, you will probably experience an adrenaline rush. Whether the offer is good or bad, you should just remain calm--and discuss a counter-offer with your agent. The negotiations of a purchase begin with the buyer's ideal terms and a counter offer that communicates the seller's ideal terms.

A good agent will look beyond the price when evaluating an offer. If the buyers' financial qualifications are shaky or the offer includes potentially problematic terms or conditions, your real estate agent should be there to minimize any risk to you and to address these items in your counter-offer. Your agent's job is not to make a decision for you, but to be sure that you understand fully what the offer includes and what is expected.
